Skype fixes gap app for Android

Less than a week after confirming that a flaw in Skype for Android could lead to leakage of personal information, the Internet communications company issued an emergency update to plug the gap.

Skype advised consumers that "after a period of development and testing, we released a new version of Skype for Android at Android Market, containing a fix for a vulnerability that has been reported. Please upgrade to version [1.0.0.983] as soon as possible to protect your data. "

The company said there were no reports of third-party apps that exploit the flaw, but remains on alert. The failure exposed data like user name, e-mail, contacts and chat logs.

The
blog Android Police, who revealed the flaw in Skype, said that the fix works. "Skype has changed the permissions of the databases (which contain personal information) in question. " However, the blog warned that the updated version "will not fix the vulnerability of a leaked version, with video capabilities of the app, so using this version is at your own risk. "

And, perhaps in an effort to compensate for wear in his image, Skype included in the update support for 3G VoIP calls. Until then, the U.S., calls this kind were restricted to Verizon customers or via Wi-Fi.
